Being out here at Gate No 254/255 in Kharabewadi is a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the main city area. We are situated right on the Chakan-Talegaon Road, which is always full of heavy trucks and lots of dust blowing around. This is the heart of the industrial belt in Chakan, so there is always something moving and some kind of construction happening nearby. Our place is quite large because the stuff we deal with, the hydraulics and electropneumatics, takes up a lot of floor room. Most of the guys here have been with us for years and know the routine well. We start early to beat some of the afternoon heat, though in Chakan, it’s always a bit dry and windy. The workshop floor is where everything happens. You’ll hear the clanging of metal and the hiss of air lines pretty much all day long. It’s a big site, and sometimes it feels like we spend half the day just walking from one end of the gate to the other end. We don’t have a fancy lobby or any of that corporate stuff. It’s all about the machines and the technical work. The road outside is constantly busy with people heading toward Pune or Talegaon for their shifts. We usually grab tea from the small stall near the entrance when we get a break. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know.
