Devyani Mini Market & Ice Cream

Our shop is over at Shaniwar Peth 358. It’s a mini market, so we carry a bit of everything, plus the ice cream side of things. It stays pretty cramped in here with all the shelves full of goods. I spend a lot of my time stocking items, trying to fit everything in so people can find what they need without having to ask. The ice cream freezer is right near the front because that’s what people usually want when it’s hot outside. I have to keep an eye on the power because we get occasional cuts in Shaniwar Peth and I don't want the stock to melt and go to waste. It’s a local neighborhood kind of place. I know most of the people who come in by their first name or at least their face from seeing them every week. There is always someone coming in for a small thing like matches, milk, or a quick snack. The floor gets dusty really fast with the door being open all day, so I’m always grabbing the broom to sweep up. We aren't some big supermarket, just a small corner spot where you can grab your daily groceries. Sometimes the deliveries arrive all at once and the sidewalk gets blocked with crates, which is a bit of a mess to deal with in the afternoon. I just try to keep things organized as much as I can in such a small space. It’s busy but I like the pace of it most days.
