Devki Sonali Design Studio

Our design studio is tucked away in the Manjiri Apartments at 114 A on Prabhat Road in Erandwane. It’s a nice, quiet street with a lot of old trees, which makes for a peaceful place to work. We converted one of the larger rooms in the apartment into our studio. It’s usually a bit of a mess with sketches, fabric pieces, and different spools of thread everywhere. We don’t like having a sterile, clean office because that’s not how we work. We’re always in the middle of some project, and things tend to pile up. Me and my partner do all the designing and the making ourselves. We don’t have a fancy storefront, so people usually just come by the apartment to see what we’re working on. It’s a very hands-on process, and we like it that way. Prabhat Road is one of my favorite parts of Erandwane because it still has some of that old Pune charm. We often walk down to the local tea stall when we need a break from the sewing machine. Our clients are mostly people from the neighborhood or friends of friends. We don’t do any big advertising; we just let the work speak for itself. It’s a small, personal operation, and we’re quite happy keeping it that way. The space is crowded, but it’s where all our ideas come to life. We often have music playing in the background while we work through the afternoon and into the evening.
