Down in Pimpri at 42/1, that is where we are. It’s a heavy industrial area, so there are always trucks moving and the sound of machinery from the neighboring units. Our place has that smell of warm plastic that you get used to after five minutes. The ceiling is very high and made of tin sheets, so it gets really hot when the sun is out in the summer. We have these big machines that run for most of the day. There is always a bit of a hum in the air. We wear heavy clothes because of the work environment. It’s not a place for sitting around and relaxing. Most of the time we are moving pallets or checking the output from the molds. The floor is marked with yellow lines that are mostly faded and chipped now. We have a small office in the corner with a glass window so you can see what’s happening on the floor. It’s mostly just us and the crew working through the shifts. Lunch is usually eaten together in the small break area near the back door. We talk about the weather or the traffic on the way in. It’s hard work and your hands get dirty and tired by the end of the shift. We just focus on getting the orders ready and loaded onto the trucks. It’s a straightforward setup without any bells or whistles. We just show up and do the work.
