This little spot in Dhanakawadi at C/4 is where we spend most of our lives. Bakers Pride has been part of this neighborhood for a while, and you can usually smell the bread long before you see the shop front. The ovens stay hot almost all day, which makes it a bit sweaty inside during the summer months. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know how to handle the dough and keep the shelves filled. The flour gets everywhere, on our clothes and even in our hair, no matter how careful we are with the sacks. Customers usually pop in on their way home to grab something for tea time. The floor is made of old stone that is worn smooth from all the walking back and forth. We have a small glass display case that we have to clean every hour because of finger marks from people pointing at what they want. It is not a fancy place with bright lights or air conditioning. We just have the ceiling fans that hum loudly and keep the air moving a little bit. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected if the morning was busy. We just close up the shutters when everything is gone and start the cleaning. It is hard work on the legs, but seeing the neighbors every day makes it feel alright. There is always a lot of chatter near the counter about the local news.
