Chocolate Toast

Chocolate Toast is our small shop at number 29, located near the Railway Ground in the Bibwewadi Railway Quarter on Tadiwala Road. It’s a unique spot because we get a lot of railway workers coming by. The shop isn't very big, so the smell of whatever we are baking usually spills out onto the street. We focus on bread, some cakes, and small snacks. We don't have any fancy machinery. A lot of what we do is done by hand, from mixing the dough to icing the cakes. It makes for long days and our backs often ache by the time we close up. The building is quite old and the walls are a bit stained from the oven smoke over the years. We have a small display case that we try to keep full, but sometimes things sell out faster than we expect. We don't have a big sign with lights; most people just know we are here because they live or work nearby. It’s a family-run operation. My brother helps with the baking and I handle the customers. We have some regulars who have been coming since we first opened. They usually want the same thing every day and get a bit confused if we try something new. We just keep things simple and try to make sure everything tastes good. It's not a glamorous life, but it’s ours.
