Assistant

I work over at Ganesh Sofa Works in Pune 410017. It is one of those places where there is always some dust from the wood or scraps of fabric lying around on the floor. My role here is as an assistant, which basically means I do a bit of everything to keep the shop moving along. We are right in the middle of things here, and you can always hear the staplers going or the sound of someone cutting foam. It is hard work, honestly. My hands are usually tired by the end of the day, but that is just how it goes when you are dealing with furniture. We have stacks of different materials piled up, and I spend a lot of time helping people pick out what they want or just moving heavy frames from one side of the room to the other. It is not a shiny showroom like the ones you see in the big malls. It is a workshop. We have been in this part of Pune for a bit, and people know where to find us. I don't write big reports or sit in meetings. I just help out with the sofas and make sure the customers get what they came for. It’s a bit messy and loud, but it is honest work. Sometimes we have tea together when it's quiet, just looking at the half-finished chairs and planning the next day.
