Architect Omkar Deshmukh

Shaniwar Peth is a busy part of town, and that is where I have my office on Madhya Marg. I am Omkar Deshmukh and I have been working as an architect from this spot for several years. My workspace is usually a bit of a mess with rolls of tracing paper and pencils scattered all over the place. I don’t believe in having a perfectly clean desk because that usually means no work is getting done. Most of my day is spent drawing or talking to clients about their homes. I get a lot of people from the neighborhood stopping by just to ask a quick question about a renovation or a permit. I try to give them a straight answer without using a lot of complicated words. Madhya Marg always has something going on outside, which is nice when I need a break from looking at the computer screen. I don't have a big staff, just me and occasionally someone to help with the drawings. It is a quiet way to make a living, but I like the challenge of fitting a new design into an old space. The building I am in is older too, but it has a lot of character. I think it helps me stay focused on the practical side of architecture. If you walk past during the day, you will probably see me with my head down, working on a plan.
