Akram Fruit Growers

Down in Zahidbagh, specifically around the Litter area in Pulwama, you will find us working. This part of Shopian is famous for its trees, and Akram Fruit Growers is right in the middle of it. We spend almost all our time in the orchards. It is not an easy job. You have to watch the trees every day and make sure everything is growing like it should. When the season hits, it gets very hectic around here. We have crates stacked up and people moving back and forth all day long. The air smells like fresh fruit when harvest time comes. We are just a local family business, really. We don’t have a big corporate office with glass walls. Our office is mostly the shade of a tree or a small shed where we keep the tools. The road through Litter can get muddy when it rains, which makes moving the fruit a bit of a challenge. We have been doing this for many years now. It is what our fathers did and what we do now. Pulwama is a good place for this kind of work. We know the soil and we know how the weather changes. People in the village all know each other. We just try to get the best out of what we grow. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn until the sun goes down.
