We’ve been here on Villianur Main Road for quite a while now. The mill stays busy most days, and there’s always that particular smell of grain in the air when you walk in. It’s not a fancy place, just a working mill in Karikalampakkam where things get done. Some days the machines are louder than others, especially when we have a big load coming in from the local fields. My father started things off, and we just kept it going because people need their rice processed. We don’t really do much advertising. Most folks just know where we are by the sound or the trucks parked out front. It gets pretty dusty inside, so we spend a lot of time sweeping up. The heat can be a bit much in the afternoons, but that’s just how it is working here. We deal with farmers mostly. They bring their harvest, we talk for a bit, and then we get to work. It’s a repetitive kind of life, but there’s something nice about seeing the raw grain turn into something people can actually eat. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything stops, which gives us a chance to sit outside and watch the traffic go by on the main road. We keep the ledger books on a small wooden desk that’s seen better days. It's just a regular local business, nothing more. We wake up early, open the big metal shutters, and stay until the sun goes down.
