La Pasta World

Pondicherry is a nice place to be, and our shop, La Pasta World, is right on Vysial Street. If you know where Krishna Sweets is, then you’ve probably walked right past us at some point. It’s an old street with a lot of history, and the buildings have that specific look you only find here. We spend a lot of our time in the kitchen. It gets quite warm in there, especially when we have all the burners going at once. It’s not a quiet job. There is always the sound of water boiling or someone chopping something in the back. We started this because we liked the idea of having a small spot of our own. It wasn’t easy getting everything set up, and some days it feels like something is always breaking, like a leaky tap or a stubborn door handle. But we get by. We don't have a big team of people; it’s just a few of us doing the cooking and cleaning. We get a mix of travelers and people who have lived in Pondicherry their whole lives. Sometimes we have a chat, sometimes we don’t. We aren't trying to be the most famous place in town or anything. We just want to make sure the food is hot and the plates are clean. It’s a lot of long hours, but seeing the same faces come back makes it feel worth it.
