Rajamani Dall Mills

My family and I run Rajamani Dall Mills over at Plot No. 11 on National Highway No. 45A. We are located right in Thirubuvanai, near the bus stand in Villupuram. It’s a noisy place because of the big machines we use to process the pulses. Every morning starts quite early before the sun gets too hot. We spend a lot of hours sorting through raw dal and getting it ready for the local markets. The floors usually have a bit of dust on them from the grains, but that is just part of the job. I often find myself helping the workers load heavy sacks onto the trucks that stop by. We aren't a big, fancy company, just a local mill that has been around for some time. Sometimes the traffic on the highway makes it hard to talk to customers, so we have to shout a bit. Most of the people who come here are drivers or small shop owners from around the district. We don't have a fancy office, just a small desk where I keep the ledgers. The work is physical and repetitive, but it’s what we know. We just focus on getting the dal cleaned and packed properly. It’s a basic operation and we don’t try to make it seem like anything else. If you pass the bus stand, you can’t really miss our building. It’s just us doing our daily work in the heat.
