The Oberoi

The Oberoi is situated at 31/14 Muirabad in Allahabad, right here in Uttar Pradesh. The area around Muirabad is a bit more relaxed than the city center, which we appreciate. The building has been here for a long time and has seen a lot of people come and go over the years. We spend our mornings checking the rooms and making sure the floors are swept. It gets incredibly hot in the summer, so we spend a lot of time making sure the fans and coolers are working like they should. Our staff is mostly local people who have lived in Allahabad their whole lives. We aren't really into big speeches or fancy talk; we just try to make sure anyone who stays here has a clean bed and some peace. The garden needs a lot of water, especially in May, so that’s a big part of the daily routine. We have some old furniture that we probably should have replaced years ago, but it still works fine and it has some character. Sometimes the phone rings and it's someone looking for a room, and other times it's just a wrong number. We take things as they come and don't try to rush through the day. It’s a simple way of running things, and we think it works well enough for a place like this.
