Modern Gents Parlour & Hair Dresser is located in Johnstonganj, Allahabad. We are specifically on Netaji Subhash Marg, which is a very old and crowded part of the city. The buildings around here have a lot of history, and our shop has been part of the landscape for a long time. Despite "Modern" being in the name, we are actually quite traditional in how we do things. The shop is filled with the smell of aftershave and the sound of scissors clicking. Allahabad can be a very busy place, especially with all the markets in Johnstonganj. There is always a lot of shouting and rickshaws moving outside. Inside, we have our old heavy chairs that have been bolted to the floor for years. They are comfortable enough. We get all kinds of customers, from shopkeepers nearby to students. The light inside isn't the best, but we know these mirrors well. We spend our days dealing with the humidity and the crowds. It’s a lot of work to keep a place going in such a busy area. We don't have any "services" listed on a menu; people just tell us what they want and we do it. Sometimes we talk about the cricket scores or the local politics while we work. It’s a noisy, dusty, but friendly place to be. We close up when the market starts to quiet down and head home through the narrow lanes.
