Out here in Barawad, J P Public School is where we spend most of our time. Baraut is a quiet kind of place, and we like it that way. The school isn't some giant glass building; it's just a sturdy place where the local kids come to study. We deal with the usual stuff like leaky taps or making sure the gate is locked at night. The staff mostly comes from the nearby villages, so everyone knows everyone else’s business. It makes for a friendly atmosphere, even if it gets a bit loud when the kids are at recess. We don't have fancy brochures with photoshopped pictures. What you see when you walk in is exactly what we are. There’s a lot of mud in the rainy season and plenty of heat in the summer, but we keep the fans going and the books open. Our day starts before the sun is too high and ends when the last bicycle leaves the yard. We don't try to be something we aren't. We're just a school in the middle of Barawad trying to give the children around here a decent place to learn their ABCs and numbers. Sometimes we have to fix things ourselves because help takes a while to arrive from the city. But we manage. It’s just how things work in a place like Baraut, and we’re used to it by now.
