Out in Bara, which is near Allahabad, we have our little setup for Baraagro Farmer Producer Company Limited. Devi Prasad is the one who keeps things moving at the address here. We are mostly focused on the land right around our own homes. The heat in Allahabad can be something else in the summer, so we spend a lot of time worrying about water and how to keep the crops from drying up. This company is just a way for us to have a bit more power when we go to buy things like tools or seeds. When you are just one person, nobody listens to you, but when you have a company name, people pay a bit more attention. We are not some big city business. Most of us have dirt under our fingernails every single day. We meet up at Devi Prasad's place to talk about who is growing what and where we can sell it this time around. It is not always easy and we have plenty of arguments about the best way to do things, but that is just how it goes when you have a group of farmers in one room. We do our best with what we have and try to stay honest with each other. There are no fancy promises here, just a lot of hard work and the hope that the next harvest is better than the last one we had.
