Chandana Granites

Over on Nagarajupalli Road in Marturu, you’ll find us at Chandana Granites. Our address is 14-96, and it’s a pretty straightforward place. We don’t have any big neon signs or anything like that. We just have our granite slabs lined up in the yard where people can walk through and see them. Marturu is a place where word of mouth matters more than anything else. If you do a decent job of helping someone pick their stone, they’ll tell their cousin or their neighbor. That’s how we’ve kept going. The road outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, which makes moving the heavy granite a bit of a mess. We have to be careful the forklift doesn't get stuck. I usually spend my time checking the stock and talking to the drivers who bring the stone in. Some of it comes from quite a distance. We look for pieces that don't have too many big cracks. You can't avoid all the natural flaws in stone, but we try to find the better ones. It’s just me and a couple of helpers most days. We don't rush people. Choosing stone for a house is a big deal, so we let them take their time. It’s quiet work for the most part, just the sound of the stone being moved now and then.
