Our company is run out of Sunita Devi’s house, which is number 120 in Bhatauna village. That’s in the Marwan block of Muzaffarpur. We call it Emarwanharyali Farmers Producer Company Limited. It’s a name that means something to us, even if it’s a bit long. We started this because we were tired of being at the mercy of the big buyers who come through here. Now, we try to organize things ourselves. It’s a small operation. We don’t have big desks or computers everywhere. Mostly it’s just us with our notebooks, sitting in the village and talking through the day's issues. The soil here in Muzaffarpur is good for a lot of things, especially the fruit, and we want to make the most of it. We are just local families who have lived here forever. Sometimes the rain is too much or the heat kills the young plants, but we don't give up. Being part of this group helps us share the load. We aren't polished or corporate. We’re usually around, either in the house or out back in the fields, trying to get things ready for the next truck that comes through. It’s been a long journey getting this registered, but we’re glad we did it. We just want to keep things simple and honest for everyone involved in the group.
