You can usually find the folks from Dumdumafarmers Producer Company Limited over at Bhim Kumar Patel’s house. It is house number 225 in the Guria Tola of Dumduma village. We are right here in the Nuaon block, working on the same stretches of land that our fathers and grandfathers did. This isn't some corporate office with rows of desks and spinning chairs; it is just a regular village home where we gather to talk about our crops. We realized a while back that we could achieve much more if we pooled our resources together. Farming in Dumduma has its good years and its bad years, but we always stick together through it all. We don't have much of a budget for marketing or fancy talk. We just know how to grow things well. If you walk down the road, you will likely see one of us working near the house or out in the panch area. We handle the administrative side of things right there at the kitchen table or out on the veranda when it is not too hot. It gets a little bit chaotic when everyone shows up at the same time, but we always get the job done eventually. The goal isn't to get rich fast, just to make sure the farmers in our block get a fair shake at the market. We deal with seeds, fertilizers, and getting the harvest ready for sale. It is honest work. Sometimes the paperwork is a real headache, but that is just part of the job now.
