Royal Steel Rolling Mills

Royal Steel Rolling Mills is situated right on G.T. Road. It’s a main artery for transport, so we see trucks passing by all day and night. A rolling mill is a heavy place to work. It’s hot, especially near the furnaces, and the noise of the steel moving through the rollers is something you never quite get used to. We don't have a fancy office building; our space is mostly the mill itself and a small shed for the paperwork. We spend our time turning raw steel into different shapes and sizes. It’s a lot of physical labor. The guys on the floor are tough; they have to be to handle the heat and the weight of the material. We don't use much technology here, mostly just the old machines that have been working for years. They need a lot of maintenance, so we’re often fixing things on the fly. We don't have a big marketing budget or a sales team. The work comes in because people know we are here on the G.T. Road and we've been doing this for a while. Sometimes the rain gets in through the roof, and we have to shuffle things around to keep them dry. It’s a basic operation. We don't make big promises, we just try to get the steel rolled and ready for whoever needs it. It’s a long day, starting before sunrise and ending long after dark. We drink a lot of water to stay hydrated by the furnace. It's not a place for everyone, but it’s what we do.
