Shalitva Farmers Producer Company is situated in Jamanpur, which is part of the Harij area here in Patan. We work out of Udaji Naranji Thakor’s place. Like many others in this region, we are focused on what the land can give us. It is a producer company, so it’s really about the farmers coming together to make things a bit easier for everyone involved. Farming alone is hard, but when we group up, we can handle the buying and selling much better. We don't have a big corporate office with air conditioning. It’s more of a meeting spot where we discuss which crops to plant and how to deal with the water situation. Patan can get very hot, and the ground is dry, so we spend a lot of time worrying about irrigation. Most of our days are spent in the fields, not sitting behind a desk. We handle the administrative side of things as simply as possible. There’s no fancy talk here. We just talk about soil, seeds, and the market prices. It’s a community effort. Everyone knows everyone in Jamanpur, so word travels fast if something needs doing. We are just trying to keep the tradition of farming alive while making sure our families are taken care of. It’s a basic life, but it’s what we know best. We just take it one season at a time and hope for the best with each new crop.
