Siyarams Silk Mills Ltd

Our place is over in Vasai West, at the Oceanic building in Roshan Park. It is a bit of a trek from the main part of Mumbai, but being out here in Thane gives us a bit more space. We are part of Siyarams Silk Mills, so textiles are what we know. The office is full of fabric samples and charts of different threads. You cannot walk through the room without seeing some kind of cloth draped over a chair or sitting on a table. It is a busy environment. We deal with the logistics and the mill side of things, making sure the silk and other materials are moving from the machines to the shops. Pali Vadavli is a nice enough area, though it gets quite humid being so close to the coast. You can almost smell the salt in the air on some days. We have got a lot of history with fabric, and most of the staff here can tell the difference between materials just by touching them. It is a skill you pick up after years on the job. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers and checking on the quality of the latest batches. Sometimes things go wrong at the mill and we have to scramble to fix it. It is not a perfect system, but we have been doing it long enough to know how to handle the hiccups. It is a decent life out here in Vasai, working with something as tangible as cloth every single day.
