Narishakti Mahila Shetkari Producercompany Limited is a group of women farmers located in Khudawadi, Tuljapur. Our main office is at house R392. It is a bit of a change to have the women in the village running the whole company, but it has been working out well for us so far. We know the land just as well as the men do. The Osmanabad district can get very dry, so we have to be smart about what we plant and when we do it. We focus on the crops that grow best in this specific soil. Being a company for women means we look out for each other. We share our tools and we help out if someone is busy with their family or feeling sick. The paperwork was a little confusing for us when we first started, but we sat down and figured it out together. We don’t have any flashy advertisements or anything like that. We just focus on getting our produce ready for the market. The house in Khudawadi is where we all gather to talk. It’s usually pretty loud because everyone has something to say, but we always get our decisions made eventually. We handle the sales and the buying of seeds as a group to keep our costs down. We aren’t trying to become a massive business; we just want our farms to stay productive so we can support our homes. It’s a lot of physical labor and our days start very early.
