Dattatray Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are based in Ashtagaon, which is in the Morshi taluka of Amravati. You can find us at Gangadhar Rupraoji Saut’s place. Amravati is famous for oranges, and that’s what a lot of us focus on. Dattatray is the name we chose. It’s just a group of us from the village. We were tired of selling our fruit for almost nothing to the people who come by in trucks. So we started this to see if we could do better ourselves. It’s not always easy. We have to deal with the heat and the water shortage sometimes. Morshi can get very dry. We spend a lot of time at Gangadhar’s house talking about how to improve the yield. We aren't business experts by any means. We are farmers first. We have dirt under our fingernails and we know the smell of the earth after the first rain. The office work is new to us and we make mistakes with the forms sometimes. But we are learning. Ashtagaon is a small community where everyone knows everyone’s business. We help each other out with the harvest. It’s a lot of sweating and hard work under the sun. We don't have a website or anything like that, just our names and our reputation in the village. We’re just trying to make a go of it as a group and hope for a better harvest next year.
