Varma Beach Resort

We've been here at Varma Beach Resort for a while now, right by Calangute Beach. It’s a busy spot, especially when the season kicks in. Most days start early with the sound of the waves and people walking past the P.O. down the road. We try to keep the rooms tidy and the yard clear of sand, but sand gets everywhere when you’re this close to the water. It’s just how it is. Sometimes the plumbing acts up or the lights flicker when the weather gets rough, but we fix things as they happen. We aren't some big fancy hotel chain, just a local place where you can stay and walk to the sand in a few minutes. Most of the staff live nearby, so we know the area well. We see the same faces every year, people who like being near the main beach road but want a place to sleep that isn't too complicated. There’s always music coming from somewhere nearby in the evenings. We just keep the gates open and handle the check-ins. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the salt air because it wears things down fast. You have to paint often and scrub the windows. We don't have a big corporate office, just us here on the ground making sure things are okay for whoever walks in. It’s a bit noisy sometimes with the traffic and the tourists, but that’s Calangute for you.
