Hotel Blue Bay

Living and working on Mira - Mar Beach Road means we deal with a lot of sand. It gets everywhere no matter how much we sweep the floors in the morning. Being so close to the water is nice when there is a breeze, but the salt air does a number on the paint and the metal fixtures. We spend a good chunk of our time just trying to keep the place looking decent. It’s not a big fancy resort or anything like that. It’s just a building where people stay when they want to be near the beach without spending too much money. You can hear the traffic from the road and sometimes the music from the nearby shacks if the wind is blowing the right way. We have a few staff members who have been here for years and they know most of the regulars who come down for the weekends. The rooms are plain. We put some curtains up last year but they’ve already faded a bit from the sun. Usually, the afternoons are quiet because everyone is out by the water. That’s when we catch up on the laundry or fix whatever pipe is leaking that day. It’s a steady job and we like being this close to the ocean even if it’s a lot of work to maintain. Sometimes the street gets flooded when it rains hard, but we manage to stay open. It's just the way things are around here on the beach road.
