The Kenilworth Beach Resort & Spa

Our place, The Kenilworth Beach Resort & Spa, is down in Utorda. Being right by the beach means we’re constantly fighting a battle against the sand and the salt air. You’d be surprised how much sand gets tracked into the lobby every single hour of the day. We spend a lot of our time sweeping and mopping just to keep it under control. The gardens need a lot of water because the sun here in Goa is really strong, especially in the afternoons. It’s a large property, so there’s always something that needs attention, like a leaking pipe or a broken lounge chair. We aren't some fancy high-tech operation; we’re just a bunch of people working in the sun to keep the place together. The pace of life here is a bit slower than in the big cities, which suits us just fine. Sometimes the humidity makes everything feel heavy, and we all move a bit slower on those days. We don't have a big script for how we talk to people; we just say hello and help out with whatever is needed. It’s a lot of work keeping the pool clean and the grass cut, but it’s what we do. We’ve got a mix of young staff and older folks who have lived in this village their whole lives. It makes for a weird but good mix.
