St Marys Convent High School

Our school is up on the hill in Altinho, Mapusa. It’s a quiet spot away from the main market noise of Goa. St Marys Convent High School has been part of this community for a very long time. The building has that old look to it, with thick walls and high ceilings. You can see the town from some of the upper windows. We have many girls coming here for their education. It’s a busy place during the term. The bells ring out across the hill to mark the end of each period. We have a playground that gets a bit overgrown in the monsoon, so we have to clear it often. The teachers are dedicated and stay late to finish their work. We don't have a lot of modern frills. We use textbooks and notebooks like schools have done for decades. In the afternoons, you’ll see the students walking down the hill to catch their buses or meet their parents. It’s a very peaceful place to be compared to the center of Mapusa. We keep things running smoothly as much as possible. Sometimes the old plumbing gives us trouble, but we get it fixed. It’s just part of managing an old building. We are proud of our history here in Altinho. We don't make a big fuss about things. We just open our doors every morning and get to work teaching the next generation. It is a long walk up but worth it.
