Holy Cross High School

Holy Cross High School is over in Bastora, Goa. The pin code is 403507. Bastora is one of those quieter villages, away from the busy tourist beaches and the loud music, so it’s a nice place for a school. We are surrounded by a lot of trees and old houses that have been there forever. The building itself has been part of the village for quite some time. It’s not a modern glass structure; it’s more traditional and fits in with the local Goan style. In the rainy season, everything gets incredibly lush and green, but we have to deal with the dampness in the classrooms. The students are mostly local kids from Bastora and the nearby areas like Mapusa. You’ll often see them playing football in the yard whenever they get a break from their studies. We don’t have a lot of corporate rules or fancy titles here. Most of us are just teachers who have been working in Goa for many years. We know the families and we see the same people at the local market. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere compared to schools in the big cities. We don’t spend money on big ads or trying to look better than we are. It’s just a solid, local high school where the bells ring on time and everyone knows each other’s names. We just try to get through the syllabus and make sure the school stays a friendly place.
