Alor Holiday Resort

Our place is tucked away in Naikavaddo, in the Poriat area. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, which is nice if you like a little peace. Alor Holiday Resort isn’t one of those massive, shiny hotels you see in the magazines. It’s more of a collection of rooms with a bit of a garden area. We spend a lot of time sweeping leaves and making sure the pool stays clear of debris. The salt air from the coast makes things age a little faster, so there is always a door to fix or a railing to paint. The staff lives nearby, and we usually start the day early before the heat gets too heavy. You can hear the birds in the morning and sometimes the sound of motorbikes in the distance. The rooms are simple, with just the basic things you need for a stay. We don’t have a big fancy lobby. Most guests just spend their time out on the porch or walking down to the beach. We try to keep the place tidy, but it’s a constant battle with the Goa humidity. It’s a slow-paced kind of place. We just focus on keeping the water running and the lights on for whoever is staying with us. In the evenings, we usually sit by the gate for a bit and watch the sun go down before finishing our final rounds. It is just a quiet spot.
