If you go down into the basement at C-5 in the Wazirpur Industrial Area, that’s where you’ll find Vinod Bartan Store. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler in the summer, but we have to keep the lights on all day. We have stacks and stacks of stainless steel utensils and kitchenware everywhere. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes with all the boxes piled up. Wazirpur is known for this kind of stuff, so we fit right in. We sell all sorts of pots, pans, and plates. People come in looking for things for their homes or sometimes for bigger kitchens. The floors are concrete and can get a bit slippery if we’re cleaning, so we have to watch our step. We’ve been running this store for a long time. It’s a family-run kind of thing, really. We don’t have fancy displays; we just put the items out where people can see the quality of the metal. Sometimes it gets really loud with the sounds of the industrial area above and around us, but we don't mind. We just keep track of the stock and help customers find the right size of bartan they need. It’s a simple business. We open up, move some boxes, talk to customers, and close up when the sun goes down. Usually, there's some tea brewing in the back for whoever is around.
