Wazirpur Industrial Area is a loud place. If you come down to C-14, you’ll hear the machines hum before you even see the door. That is where we spend most of our time at Uttam Steel Alloys. It is dusty and there is always the smell of metal in the air, but that is just part of the job. We have been working with steel for a long time now. Most of us have been here since we were much younger. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist greeting people. You just walk in and someone will probably be moving a pallet or checking a furnace. It gets really hot in the summer, especially near the back where the heavy stuff happens. We just drink plenty of water and keep going. Most of our days are spent checking measurements and making sure the alloys are right. If a batch isn't good, we have to start over, which is a pain but it happens. We deal with a lot of regular contractors who know where to find us. We don’t really bother with social media or anything like that. There is too much work to do on the floor. It is a tough environment, but it feels good to see the trucks loaded up at the end of the shift. We just do our bit here in Wazirpur and go home tired at the end of the day, knowing we did what we were supposed to do.
