Surya Packers

Our spot is over in the Ashok Vihar Main Market, specifically at B 1239. If you know the area, you know how packed the lanes get with shoppers and rickshaws all day long. We spend most of our time surrounded by rolls of bubble wrap and stacks of brown cardboard boxes. It’s a bit messy, honestly, because there’s always someone moving something or tape being pulled. The smell of adhesive and dust is pretty much part of the furniture here. We started doing this packing stuff because it was something we understood, just making sure things don't break when they go from one place to another. It isn't a glamorous job, and my hands are usually a bit dry from handling all that paper and tape. We have a small desk tucked in the corner where we keep the ledger and a few pens that barely work. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat about the weather or the traffic on the main road. The shutters are a bit heavy to pull up in the morning, especially when it’s cold out. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who know how to wrap a vase or a TV so it stays safe. It’s honest work, even if the floor is always covered in little bits of scrap. We just stay here until the last box is loaded, then we head home and do it again tomorrow.
