Amar International is located right in the heart of Khari Baoli at Katra Hussain. If you’ve ever walked through these lanes, you know the smell of spices is everywhere. Our place at 330 is usually piled high with sacks and boxes. We spend the day dealing with traders and people looking for good bulk prices. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it’s how it works here. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is worn down from all the heavy lifting over the years. We aren't a big modern office with air conditioning. We have big heavy doors and a lot of ledgers. Most of our day is spent on the phone or shouting over the noise of the laborers outside. It can get very hot in the summer, but that’s just part of working in the old city. We don't do much advertising. People find us through word of mouth or because their fathers did business with us years ago. It’s about being reliable and showing up every morning at the same time. We take our tea black and we stay until the last truck is loaded. It’s hard work and your clothes always end up smelling like the warehouse, but we are used to it. We don't have a fancy story to tell, just that we are here working every day in the heat.
