We are located over at Plot No. B. 49 on the ground floor of the Hosiery Complex. This is in the Phase 2 Extension area, which is pretty much dedicated to this kind of industrial work. Being on the ground floor is a blessing because it means we don’t have to lug heavy bags of knitwear up any stairs. The space is filled with knitting machines that make a constant clicking sound all day long. It becomes like background music after you’ve been here for a few hours. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big reception area; it’s just a workshop where things get made. Sometimes the floor is a mess with leftover yarn, but we try to sweep it up at the end of every shift. We have a few guys who handle the machines and a couple of us who deal with the people coming in to pick up orders. It’s a lot of manual labor and standing around, making sure the patterns are coming out the way they are supposed to. We don’t really bother with big corporate talk or polishing our image. We just want the machines to stay running and the cloth to be good enough for the market. When the tea man comes around, that’s usually the highlight of the afternoon for everyone. It’s a simple business, and we are just trying to keep things moving along in the complex like everyone else around us. We focus on the work and leave the fancy talk to someone else.
