Down here in Roja Jalalpur, things are always moving. Noida Extension is basically one giant construction site these days, and we are right in the middle of it. As ground engineers, we spend most of our time looking at dirt and rocks. It’s not the most glamorous job, but someone has to figure out if the ground can actually hold up a building. We have our gear scattered around, and there’s always a pair of muddy boots by the door. Our days start early because the sun gets brutal out in the open. We don't have a big fancy office with air conditioning everywhere; it's more about being out where the work is. Sometimes the paperwork gets a bit behind because we’re busy at a site near the village or further out in the extension. We talk to a lot of site managers and laborers every day. It’s a lot of technical stuff, but we try to explain it simply to people. The roads around here are still being built, so it’s bumpy and dusty all the time. We’ve grown used to the noise of the drills and the trucks. It’s a real job with real sweat. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just make sure the ground is ready. It’s honest work, and at the end of the day, we’re just tired people trying to do a decent job.
