You can find us at H No 7-30 in Sadashivanagar. My shop is basically a big open garage where we work on tractors and the trolleys that go behind them. It’s a noisy place with a lot of hammering and the sound of heavy engines starting up. I’ve got grease under my fingernails most of the time because there’s always an engine that needs opening or a gearbox that’s stuck. Farmers around here depend on their machines, so when something breaks, they need it fixed fast. We keep a lot of spare parts like bolts, nuts, and iron rods lying around in bins. Sometimes we have to do a bit of welding to fix a cracked trolley frame or reinforce a hitch. The floor is concrete but it’s mostly covered in oil stains and metal shavings. I usually have one or two helpers who are learning the trade. We don't have any fancy computer diagnostics or anything like that; we just listen to the engine and figure out what’s wrong by experience. During the planting season, we are working late into the night because everyone is in a hurry. We just keep a couple of bright lights on and keep going until the job is done. It’s not a clean job, but it’s honest work and it keeps the village moving. We’ve been at this same spot for years and don't plan on moving.
