Our place, Universal Wood Craft, is at E-107 in Jaitpur Extn., Part-2. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but that makes it a little more peaceful for us to work. We’ve been here for several years, and most of the people in the neighborhood know us. The shop is filled with the smell of cut timber and polish. We don’t have any big machines that do the work for us; it’s mostly just basic power tools and a lot of manual effort. The walls are lined with old tools that have been around since we started. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside on the stools and wait for it to come back on. It gives us a chance to talk to the neighbors. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in town. We just like the process of taking a rough piece of wood and turning it into something useful. The floor is concrete and usually pretty cold in the winter, so we wear thick boots. We don't have a website or a fancy sign. Most people find us through word of mouth or by just walking past and seeing the piles of wood outside. It’s a simple life and we enjoy the work we do. We stay open late most nights because there’s always one last thing to finish up before we head home. We just try to do right by the people who come to see us.
