Manjit Woodcraft

Our workshop is at Rz-34/2 in Gali No. 38, over in Sadh Nagar-Ii. It’s in the Palam Colony area of New Delhi. You can usually hear us before you see us because of the saws and the sanding machines going. Manjit Woodcraft is a noisy place, honestly. There’s sawdust everywhere no matter how much we sweep it up. We’ve been in this gali for a while now and everyone knows us by the sound. It’s a family-run kind of thing, not a big factory. We work with our hands mostly. Sometimes the wood doesn't behave like we want it to, or a machine breaks down, and we have to spend the afternoon fixing it ourselves. It's not a clean, shiny showroom. It’s a place where work actually happens. We have stacks of timber in the corner and different tools hanging on the walls. The lighting isn't the best, but we know where everything is even in the dark. In the summers it gets incredibly hot in the workshop, so we drink a lot of water and take breaks under the fan. We don't have a fancy website or a sales team. People usually just find us by word of mouth or by walking past the shop. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. We just focus on making things out of wood and trying to get the details right. There is always a layer of dust on our shoes but that is part of the job.
