Sunil Kumar

Being over here in Mohalla Gurhai, you see a lot of the same people every day. I’ve been running things under my name, Sunil Kumar, at house 186 for quite some time now. Shahdara is a crowded part of Delhi, but it has its own rhythm. I like it. My workspace isn't huge. It’s packed with things I’ve collected over the years. I don’t believe in throwing things away if they might be useful later. That’s just how I was raised. Work starts early because the heat gets bad by noon. I try to get the heavy lifting done before it gets too sweaty. My neighbors are good people. We help each other out. If my gate is open, it means I’m working. There’s no fancy reception desk here. You just walk in and we see what’s needed. I don't spend much time on the internet or worrying about what other businesses are doing. I just focus on my own pile of work. It’s honest and it pays the bills. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just wait it out with a hand fan. That’s just life in Delhi-32. I’ve seen the area change a lot since I was a kid. New shops come and go. But I’m still here at 186 Mohalla Gurhai. I plan to stay as long as I can keep working. It isn't much to look at from the outside, but inside, we get the jobs done properly and without any fuss.
