We have been tucked away in Gali No. 13 of Multani Dhanda for a long time now. Our address is Plot No. 10402/8A, right in the middle of Paharganj. If you know Delhi, you know how these lanes can be. It’s narrow and crowded, and there is always a rickshaw or a delivery cart trying to squeeze past. Our hardware shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of tools and supplies. Sometimes I think we have too much stuff, but then someone walks in asking for a very specific bolt and we find it right away. It’s a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, but we have our lights on all day. We start early because the market wakes up fast. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find a shiny showroom. It’s just shelves and boxes and the smell of oil and metal. We deal with all kinds of customers, from locals fixing a leak to contractors buying in bulk. We just tell them what we have and what it costs. No fancy talk needed. Working in Paharganj means you have to be patient with the chaos outside. We just keep our heads down and serve the people who walk through the door. It is a bit of a squeeze sometimes, but we make it work somehow.
