Sharma Saree Centre

We've been at 1752 Chira Khana for a long time now. People usually find us behind the New Marwari Katra on Nai Sarak. It's a busy part of the market, and we're right in the middle of it. We keep all sorts of sarees. Mostly, folks come in looking for something specific for a wedding or just a regular function. It gets quite crowded in the afternoons, especially when the sun is out and the narrow lanes get a bit stuffy. Sharma Saree Centre isn't a fancy showroom with glass doors. It’s a plain place where we sit on the floor and show the fabrics. My father started this, and we just kept going. Dealing with weavers and customers takes up most of the day. Sometimes the tea arrives cold because we're busy unfolding bundles of silk or cotton. We don't have a big website or anything. If you want to see what we have, you just walk down the lane past the Katra. It’s easier that way. The lights inside are a bit bright so the colors show up right. We try to keep things organized but with so many boxes, it's hard. Some days are slow, others we don't have time to sit. That’s just how the market works here in Old Delhi. We know most of the people around. It's a community. You see the same faces every day. It's just a regular life here on Nai Sarak.
