Down in Masoodpur Village, things feel a little bit different than the rest of Basant Kunj. Our place, Rg Leather, is at D-72, and you can usually tell you are close by the smell of the hides and the sound of the stitching machines. It is a dusty area and the roads aren't always the smoothest, but we like it here. The workshop is crowded with rolls of leather in all sorts of browns and blacks. We have scrap pieces all over the floor because we are always cutting something new. It is a family thing, mostly, with a few extra hands when we have a big order to finish. We don't have a big window to look out of, just a small one that shows the neighbor's brick wall. The lights flicker sometimes if we run too many machines at once, but we've learned how to manage that. Rg Leather is just a simple operation. We spend our days with stained hands and sore backs, but there is something about the way a finished piece looks that makes it worth it. We often sit outside on the steps during lunch to get some fresh air away from the glue and the dust. It is a long day every day, and we don't really have time for anything fancy. This is just the work we know how to do best, and we keep at it until the evening.
