It is usually quite loud here in Munirka, especially during the afternoons when everyone is out on the street. Our place at 138/A is just another part of this crowded neighborhood in New Delhi. Most days start early before the heat really sets in. We spend a lot of time just organizing things and making sure the floor is swept. People walk past the door all day long, some headed to the university nearby and others just going home with their groceries. It isn’t a very big space, and sometimes the electricity acts up like it does in most of Delhi, but we make it work. We’ve been here for a while now, and the walls probably need a new coat of paint, but there’s always something more urgent to do. You get used to the sounds of the horns and the people shouting outside. It’s just how things are in this part of town. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming with the traffic right outside the door, but we have our routine down. We don’t really have any fancy signs or a big lobby. It’s mostly just us doing what we need to do to keep the day moving along. We have some regular people who stop by just to say hello or ask for directions. It feels like a small community even though the city is so huge and confusing outside our little corner here in the lanes of Munirka.
