I spend most of my working days over at the Patiala House Courts. My name is Prem Lal, and if you have spent any real amount of time around the various courtrooms here, you have probably seen me walking around. It is a very hectic place to be, always filled with lawyers, clerks, and people who are just waiting around for their hearings to start. The hallways are usually packed with folks carrying thick files and talking in low voices about their legal matters. I don't have a fancy office with a big desk and a view of the city; my "office" is often just whatever spot I can find to sit down and get some writing done. It can be a bit overwhelming with the constant noise and the heat during the summer months, but that is just how it is at Patiala House. I have been coming here for many years, and I know pretty much every corner of the court compound by now. It is a place where things seem to move very slowly and then very quickly all at the same time. You might wait for hours in the corridor and then suddenly everything happens in a matter of five minutes. I try my best to stay organized, but with so many papers moving back and forth, it is a constant struggle. I am just a name among many others here, but I take pride in being here every day to do what needs doing.
