Lajpat Nagar-4 can be a bit of a maze if you aren't familiar with the O.D.S. blocks. Our place at H-41 is tucked away from the main chaotic market, which is a relief during the festival seasons when nobody can move an inch out there. This building has been part of our daily life for years. We deal with a lot of boxes and tape. You can usually hear the sound of packing tape being pulled all through the morning. It is a noisy job but someone has to do it. The rooms are filled with stacks of fabric and ready pieces waiting to go out. We try to keep things organized but when three shipments arrive at once, the floor disappears for a few hours. The Delhi heat gets pretty bad in the summer, so we keep the fans running on high speed all day long. Lunch is usually something quick brought from home, eaten while sitting on one of the larger crates. It isn't a glamorous office with glass partitions or anything like that. It is a working space where things actually get done. We talk to the couriers more than anyone else. They know exactly where H-41 is even without looking at the map. Sometimes we stay late when a big order needs to be finished, watching the street lights come on outside. It is just a steady, honest way to spend the day in South Delhi.
