Nitendra Sharma

My legal chamber is located at number 19 in the Patiala House Courts. It is a small room, which is pretty common for the lawyers working here. Most of my day is spent sitting among tall stacks of files and law books that seem to grow every month. The hallways outside are always full of people rushing to different courtrooms, and you can hear the constant murmur of voices. I’ve been working out of this chamber for a long time now. Nitendra Sharma is the name on the door, but it’s mostly just me and a helper trying to stay on top of all the paperwork and court dates. It isn't a modern or fancy office. The wooden furniture is quite old and the walls are covered with shelves to hold as many documents as possible. We keep a small kettle for making tea because the workdays often stretch late into the evening. Clients come by to talk about their cases, and we just sit around the one desk I have. It’s a very practical and basic setup. There is no room for anything that isn't necessary for the work. You get used to the dust and the noise of the court after a while. I try to keep everything in order, though sometimes the piles of paper make that difficult. It’s just the reality of practicing law in a busy place like this today.
