Neha Silk is up on the 1st Floor at No. 139/ A in Malviya Nagar. Being on the first floor means people have to walk up the stairs to find us, so we don't get as many random passersby as the ground-floor shops. But once people find us, they usually stay for a while. Silk is a delicate thing to work with, and we have a lot of it here. We spend a lot of time unfolding fabrics to show the colors and then carefully folding them back up so they don't get creased. The shop has a specific smell of old fabric and wood. It’s not a modern, shiny place. It feels a bit more like someone’s large storage room that’s been turned into a shop. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes we have to use a ladder to get down a specific roll of silk that someone wants to see. We aren't trying to be a high-end luxury brand. We’re just a local Malviya Nagar business that knows a lot about silk. We talk to our customers about how to wash the fabric and what kind of thread works best for it. It’s a slow kind of business. You can’t rush silk. We enjoy the quiet moments when the sun comes through the window and hits the fabrics. It’s just us, the cloth, and the daily chores of running a small shop. It takes time, but we don't mind the pace at all.
