About Fab Hides & Leathers – Fashion & Trends in New Delhi
We are over at D-1/26 in Model Town. If you walk by, you can usually smell the leather from the street. It’s a strong scent, but you get used to it after working here for a few years. My desk is tucked in the back corner right next to the stacks of cowhide and goat skins. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while now. The building is older, so the floors creak a bit when you walk around looking for a specific color or thickness. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit disorganized when we have a big shipment come in, but we eventually sort it out. People around the neighborhood know us mainly because we’ve stayed put while other shops have changed names or moved away. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright lights. Mostly, it’s just rolls of material and the tools we use for cutting and measuring. Sometimes it’s quiet, and other times it’s quite hectic when several people come in at once looking for scraps or full hides for their projects. I usually spend the mornings drinking tea and checking what arrived the day before. The shelves are packed pretty tight. If you need something specific, you usually have to ask because it’s probably buried under five other things. It’s not a big corporate operation, just us working here every day and dealing with whatever leather comes through the door.
