Our place, Star Mode, is located at F-343 in Ladosarai, which is part of the Mehrauli area. Ladosarai is a funny place because it feels like a village right in the middle of the city. The lanes are narrow and sometimes it’s hard to get a car through, so most people just walk or use scooters. We have our setup in one of these buildings. It’s an old structure, but it serves us well. We do a lot of design and garment work inside. There are racks of clothes everywhere and rolls of fabric leaning against the corners. The lighting isn't the best, so we use a lot of desk lamps when we are doing the fine stitching. You can hear the neighborhood kids playing in the street outside our window. Sometimes the cows wander through the lane too. It’s a very grounded place to work. We don't have a big fancy sign or anything, just a small one by the door. Most of our day is spent at the cutting table or checking the finishing on the pieces. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. It’s a small operation, just a few of us working together. We like being in Mehrauli because it has so much history around it, even if our building is just a plain one. It’s a quiet life of making clothes and sticking to our daily schedule. We usually finish up when the temple nearby starts its evening prayers.
